Become a Teen Candidate
(Ages 13 to 18)
Eligibility to compete:
1.
Must be a woman between the ages of 13 and 18 as of December 31st, 2022.
2.
Must be a United States Citizen.
3.
Must live, work, or be a student full time in the state of Washington. Additionally, must live, work, or be student full time in Yakima County if competing for Miss Yakima County Outstanding Teen.
4.
Must meet character criteria as set forth by the official Miss America Outstanding Teen contract.
5.
Must not hold a title in the Miss America Organization or another similar system at the time of the competition.
6.
Should you win, must commit to competing in the Miss Washington Outstanding Teen 2022 competition.

Areas of Competition:
Worth 30%
The Private Interview is 8 minute press-style interview where the candidate is expected to exhibit the qualities and attributes of a Miss America Outstanding Teen. Candidates will be judged on their overall first impression, personality, intelligence.

Worth 10%
This phase of competition is designed to see how well the candidate maintains a lifestyle of good physical health and whether or not she has the sense of confidence and selfassurance needed to serve as a titleholder. The candidates will wear a type of aerobic/active-wear clothing, chosen by the Local Organization. The MAOTeen Organization does not judge on a candidates appearance and is not looking for a “perfect” fitness body.

Worth 40%
The talent competition is a 1 minute and 30 seconds representation of the candidates unique abilities and can be anything from singing, to dancing, to jump-roping, tp presenting a monologue. This phase is judged on technical skill, execution, stage presence; and the totality of all elements, including costume and props.

Worth 20%
Evening wear is an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate the poise, grace, and commanding stage presence, as well as her ability to answer a question with eloquence and intelligence in front of a large audience. Candidates are judged on their sense of confidence, personality, stage presence, and sincerity. In addition, their technique, including walk and posture is taken into consideration.
